Database Administrator

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Effectively maintains database applications performance. 
  • Consistently provides expertise and guidance in the design; and the implementation and maintenance of database management systems.
  • Consistently performs and promotes interfacing with Users, Consultants, Technical Teams, and vendors for maximum guidance in determining the most appropriate type of database applications.
  • Assists in the installation and customization of database platforms to allow personal computers to retrieve information from the midrange servers; as well as allowing data to be entered from the PCs.
  • Assists in the preparation of charts and diagrams to explain database operations to be used for training others in proper use; this includes checklists and processes for Production Support Analysts and Network Technicians.
  • Provides effective and efficient access to information stored in databases.
  • Develops and monitors appropriate security procedures to safeguard system from physical harm and viruses, authorized users, and damage to data.
  • Effectively creates descriptions, manuals, or help screens to explain new systems to users after developing programs.
  • Consistently works closely with IT team to implement necessary changes, upgrades and enhancements to the Database Reporting Systems and promotes an understanding of the philosophies and strategies necessary to support the organization’s missions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A degree in Computer Science or other related technical field: and/or a minimum of equivalent experience of 2-3 years experience working with database management systems.
  • Experienced in Microsoft SQL Server and Relational database management systems design and support.
  • Good SQL and Procedural Query Language skill is a must.
  • Proven experience working with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Analysis Services and Integration Services (SSAS, SSIS).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages and tools.
  • Knowledge of Cognos Reports is a plus.
  • Experience with open-source databases is a plus (e.g. MySQL).
  • Must possess knowledge of database concepts such as schema design, triggers, transaction logs, stored procedures, and backups.
  • Must knowledge of Operating Systems such as Windows, UNIX.
  • Proven ability in working with Database and Operating Systems technologies, Network Technologies, Hardware technologies, etc.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and new ways of approaching projects
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communications skills.  Ability to perform well in a fast passed environment and meeting deadlines is essential.
  • Experienced handling multiple assignments is necessary.
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Expected to be on call 24/7.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
