As a Water Treatment Specialist in the Army National Guard, you will make sure your fellow Soldiers have clean water and live and work in sanitary conditions.

Water Treatment Specialists are part of the Army National Guard's environmental health and safety team, using their acquired knowledge and skills to fulfill several vital needs. These skills include site reconnaissance and preparation for water treatment activity, as well as setup of equipment and facilities; operation and maintenance of water treatment equipment; management of potable water supplies; monitoring the storage, transport, and disposal of waste; water quality analysis and testing; and the inspection of facilities and food supplies for the presence of disease, germs, and other environmentally hazardous conditions.

These are skills that are in demand by local, state, and federal government agencies for food and drug inspectors, public health inspectors, health and safety inspectors, and industrial hygienists. So by joining the Army National Guard as a Water Treatment Specialist, you will be preparing yourself for a rewarding civilian career.

Get paid to learn! As an Army National Guard Water Treatment Specialist, you will learn valuable job skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance.

After nine weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills, you will attend approximately 10 weeks of Advanced Individual Training that will include a combination of hands-on and classroom training where you will learn how to identify health hazards and how to inspect food products, food service operations, wastewater, and waste disposal facilities. You may even qualify for a certified apprenticeship in this occupation.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications. Actual MOS assignment may depend on MOS availability. Benefits subject to change. 
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $196.26 and $254.91 per drill weekend.
