Duties:
The successful candidate will actively participate in scheduling, maintaining electronic imaging files, demonstrating proper phone etiquette, and exemplary customer service. Duties to include but are not limited to:
  • Provides exceptional telephone and face to face customer service while performing program support assistant duties.
  • Effectively multitasks and handles demanding customer service desk while providing veterans a professional, safe and welcoming environment.
  • Orients physicians and other medical staff members to basic DIS policies and procedures involving functions of the image distribution section.  
  • Transforms and provides electronic images into hardcopy images for patient/physician requests, medical-legal requests, mail out, operating room use and patient planning conferences.
  • Provides proper instructions to practitioners submitting request for images to be uploaded into VA PACS system. Submits the request to the PACS team for uploading images into VA system.
  • Composes correspondence in order to answer inquiries, provides written documentation of reviews, and initiate or update Radiology Service policies and procedures.
  • Performs scheduling duties.
  • Performs reception duties, registering patients in the radiology package, and capturing insurance data.
  • Triaging phone calls, routing all urgent calls or notifying lead personnel as needed.
  • Proficient in typing and computer use including Windows programs and Microsoft Excel.
  • Uses VA computer programs such as VISTA and CPRS.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and works well with patients/families and peers.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of imaging exams, as well as radiology and nuclear medicine terminology.

    Current Federal Employees must meet Time-in-grade (TIG) requirements as indicated: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements equal to one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-04.

     

    PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute and submit a statement of certification with your application package (REQUIRED).

     

    Specialized Experience

    Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position (Program Support Clerk (OA)). To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-04).  Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, are not required to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.

     

    OR

    Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level; Four (4) years above high school.  Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

     

    OR

    Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned. Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05 level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.  For example, an applicant has 9 months of specialized experience and 75 semester hours of college (15 semester hours beyond the second year and the equivalent of 3 months of specialized experience). The applicant meets 75 percent of the required experience and 25 percent of the required education. The applicant meets 100 percent of the requirement for 1 year of specialized experience and is qualified for the position.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
